PartyVR Privacy Policy
Last updated: 27 August 2026
This policy explains how PartyVR handles personal data. PartyVR is a co-located multiplayer VR experience operated by Nick Esselman in the Netherlands. It is designed for users aged 13 and over.
Who is responsible
Nick Esselman is the controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy. To contact the controller or exercise a privacy right, use the contact form.
What PartyVR processes
PartyVR is designed to run gameplay over a local-area network. During an active session, the local host may process:
- headset, controller, and hand pose data needed to represent players in the shared arena;
- session information such as a temporary player identifier, team assignment, readiness, connection state, and room configuration;
- technical diagnostics such as application version, connection failures, and device status when troubleshooting is enabled; and
- Meta Horizon User ID and the platform identity required to use Meta Shared Spatial Anchors.
PartyVR does not use Meta usernames or profile photos in the experience. It does not sell personal data, show advertising, use third-party analytics, build advertising profiles, or track users across apps or websites.
Shared Spatial Anchors and Meta
When Shared Spatial Anchors are enabled, PartyVR uses Meta Horizon platform services to let headsets in the same physical room establish a shared coordinate system. This may involve Meta processing spatial-anchor data and the platform identity needed to authorize the service. Meta processes data under its own privacy terms and policies. PartyVR does not receive or retain Meta's underlying spatial-recognition data.
Gameplay networking remains on the local network. Internet access is used only where Meta's platform service requires it for shared-anchor setup or resolution.
Why we process data
We process this data to provide the shared VR session, maintain room alignment, prevent technical failures, and keep participants safe in a co-located physical space. The legal bases are performance of the service requested by participants and Nick Esselman's legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving a local multiplayer VR experience. Where Meta asks for a platform permission or consent, that processing also depends on the permission or consent supplied through Meta Horizon.
Where data is kept and for how long
Live pose, player, room, and session data are held in memory on the local PartyVR host only for the active session and are cleared when that session ends. PartyVR does not operate a central PartyVR account database.
Technical logs may be written locally on the operator's computer when troubleshooting is enabled. They are used only to diagnose a problem and should be deleted when no longer needed. The operator does not intentionally upload these logs to a third-party analytics or logging service.
Sharing and international transfers
PartyVR does not share gameplay or local-session data with advertising, analytics, or data-broker services. Meta Horizon is an independent platform provider for the Meta features described above and may process data outside the European Economic Area under the safeguards and terms it provides. The local venue/operator may see live session information needed to run the session.
Your rights
Depending on applicable law, including the GDPR, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, or portability of personal data handled by PartyVR. Contact Nick Esselman using the link above. You may also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
Security
PartyVR is designed to minimize data collection and keep gameplay data on the local network. No system can guarantee absolute security, but reasonable technical and organizational measures are used to protect data against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when PartyVR's data practices change. The current version is published at this URL with its revision date.
